Black Hills Gold Jewelry

Landstrom's Black Hills Gold Jewelry: The first recorded discovery of Black Hills Gold occurred on July 27, 1874. On that day, a scout by the name of Horatio Nelson Ross and his mule stood beside a rushing stream. Bending to get a drink of crystal clear Black Hills stream water, Horatio focused his attention on a scattering of bright colors that had caught his eye. Those colors proved to be gold. It was that gold strike that touched off a stampede for riches, which was unparallel in history. Thus beginning the legacy of BLACK HILLS GOLD. The legacy continues to this day in the form of hierloom quality jewelry: ladies rings, ladies watches, earrings, wedding sets, gold and silver jewelry, hummingbird jewelry, birthstone rings, gemstone jewelry, diamonds, broaches, pins, pendants, mother's rings, family jewelry, bracelets, necklaces, religious jewelry, western gold jewelry, engagement rings, wedding bands, mens rings, mens watches, wedding rings, and more.

The grape and leaf motif, in three colors of gold, characteristic of Landstrom’s Black Hills Gold, apparently originated in California during the Gold Rush Days of 1849. The unique designs and patterns that characterize the beautiful Black Hills Gold gradually worked eastward through the gold rush camps of Idaho, Nevada, Montana and Colorado. A man named LeBeau, brought the designs for manufacturing Black Hills Gold Jewelry from Montana to Central City, South Dakota, in 1876. He opened a shop there, and it is quite likely that LeBeau trained most of the early day gold artisans in the art of manufacturing Black Hills Gold.

In the early 1900’s, the manufacture of Black Hills Gold Jewelry was carried on by several merchants who operated retail jewelry stores with small manufacturing shops as a part of their operations in the Black Hills. Among them were, George M. Butler, R.S. Quimbly, Clarence Thorpe, Frank Thorpe, and E.O. Lampinen. The various Black Hills Gold manufacturing businesses were sold and partnerships dissolved over the years, until Mr. Ivan Landstrom, in 1944, bought the Black Hills Gold Jewelry Manufacturing Company from Ed Lampinen. This purchase included the old original tools and equipment used in the manufacture of Black Hills Gold. Since then, the company has continued until today in the manufacture of beautiful Black Hills Gold Jewelry: bracelets, ladies watches, mens watches, earrings, wedding sets, hummingbird jewelry, mens rings, necklaces, pendants, mothers rings, family jewelry, broaches, pins, gold and silver jewelry, birthstone rings, gemstone jewelry, religious jewelry, western gold jewelry, engagement rings, wedding bands, ladies rings, wedding rings, and diamond jewelry of heirloom quality. Today from the large metropolitan U.S. city to rural Addison Michigan, the quality reputation of Landstrom's Black Hills Gold is known.
